Non-invasive systems for rodents

We offer three systems for non-invasive measurement of cardiovascular parameters on rodents:

  • ecgTUNNEL, to record 6-lead ECG signal in a few seconds with 4 electrode pads, and optional respiration. 
  • rodentPACK, in backpack configuration, to record 1 or 2-lead ECG and activity 
  • CODA system, to performs blood pressure measurements from the tail cuff of the animal

Rapid adaptation


ecgTUNNEL, for non-invasive ECG & respiration
  • Mouse and rat models, with interchangeable tunnels
  • Accomodate from neonate to adult subjects
  • Tunnel gently and firmly restrains the subject
  • 4 electrode pads record up to 6-lead ECG
  • Integrated amplifier
  • Direct USB link to computer

For respiratory studies, this setup must be completed with:

  • A respiratory dome, with a pneumotachograph
  • A bias flow pump for air renewal
  • A differential air pressure transducer

Acquisition and real-time analysis are perfomed in iox2 software,
from up to 4 ecgTUNNELS simultaneously and provide:

  • Basic heart rate analysis
  • Respiratory rates and durations, breathing depth
  • Degree of bronchoconstriction (penH)

Post-acquisition ECG analysis, based on shape recognition technique,
is done in ecgAUTO software:

  • Beat-by-beat or average beat analysis
  • Single or multilead
rodentPACK, for non-invasive ECG

rodentPACK is a telemetry system to investigate biopotentials (ECG, EEG, EMG) and acceleration on freely moving animals 50g and upwards, such as rats.

It may be fixed to the cranium for neuro cardiovascular studies, or worn in a jacket and fitted with miniature ECG cables and skin electrodes, for non-invasive ECG recordings. In backpack configuration, it allows non-invasive recording of:

  • 1 or 2-lead ECG (2, 3 or 4 electrode cables)
  • x/y/z and global acceleration for postural and activity assessment

Digital telemetry receivers are positioned in the animals’ room, within 3 to 5 meters distance from their associated transmitters. Each subject is therefore free to move, single or group-housed in its cage, during the acquisition (up to 32 rats in the same room with no required shielding). The whole system is compact, as a single receiver can communicate with up to 4 transmitters. Receivers are powered and transmit data through a single Ethernet cable.

With rodentPACK system, we offer a cost-effective system with:

  • 150 hours of continuous recording with same batteries
  • No refurbishment (batteries cost less than $2/recording)


CODA, for Non-Invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP)

The volume-pressure recording technology used in the sensors is clinically validated and provides virtually 100% correlation with direct blood pressure measurements.

The CODA™ system includes:

  • A custom platform with an animal holder, a cuff and a warming pad
  • A controller with automatic inflation/deflation feature
  • A data acquisition software with automatic blood pressure measurements
  • A specially designed pump to rapidly and automatically coordinate the occlusion cuff inflation and deflation cycles with the blood pressure signal acquisition.

4 models are available:

  • CODA MonitorTM , for 1 animal (integrated display & software, no computer needed)
  • CODA™ 4, 6 or 8  system, for the study of up to 4, 6 or 8 animals

The supplied software allows real-time monitoring of parameters and can simultaneously acquire measurements from 48 animals (six CODA 8 systems). Six blood pressure parameters are acquired in rodents (from 8 g mice to rats as large as 950 g, dark-skinned mice (C57BL/6) without difficulty): 

  • Systolic blood pressure
  • Diastolic blood pressure
  • Mean blood pressure
  • Heart rate
  • Blood flow
  • Blood volume
