External devices

iox2 interfaces with a wide range of external devices to modify the experiment in response to an outstanding input value (e.g. an elevated heart rate).

Examples of external devices:

• • peristaltic pumps,
• • syringe pumps,
• • robotic systems for drug injection,
• • solenoids and valves,
• • tissue tensioning device,
• • field stimulator…

A simple graphical user interface makes device linkage easy.

Once triggered, a device can operate in a stand-alone manner. For example :

• iox2 monitors the amplitude of a pressure signal, and, when it falls below a user-defined threshold (indicating occlusion of the catheter), automatically triggers a perfusion pump to flush the pressure catheter open
  
• a device can be controlled: manually; from a protocol (i.e. a wash instruction, tissue tension adjustment...); and/or automatically when the value of a calculated parameter (e.g. HR, SBP, T°C...) reaches the alarm threshold.
